Property & Evidence Division

All property taken by members of the Medford Police Department as evidence will generally be available for return to the owner after the Property & Evidence Division has received confirmation that the item(s) are no longer needed as evidence and the case is closed.

Wait 30 days after adjudication of your case to contact the Evidence Section for release information. Vehicles and firearms are released by appointment only.

Found property generally consists of items that are located by citizens or city employees which may not immediately be able to be associated with an owner. For example, an unknown subject leaves a bicycle in a citizen's yard, and the citizen turns it in to the Medford Police Department.

Found Property/Finders Claim Information:

• If a possible owner is able to be determined, then a notice will be mailed to the last known address of that possible owner. Found property with no known owner will be held for 60 days.

• If you are the finder of property, you may be eligible to file a finder’s claim (ORS 98.005). Contact the Property & Evidence Section immediately for additional information.

• Visit the website for the Oregon Revised Statutes http://www.oregonlaws.org/ors/98.005 as to the regulations governing the rights and duties of a finder.

Prior to any weapons being released, a background check will be performed to ascertain your eligibility to receive these weapons.

Call the Property and Evidence Division to initiate the firearm return process. Firearms are released by appointment only. 

Items will be held for 30 days for pick-up by the owner. After 30 days, the items will be disposed of.

Property which cannot be returned to its owner will be disposed of by auction thru the PropertyRoom.com, www.propertyroom.com or in the case of contraband, by legally destroying it.

The Medford Police Department has in its physical possession the unclaimed personal property described below. If you have any ownership interest in any of that unclaimed property, you must file a claim with the Medford Police Department within 30 days from the date of publication of this notice, or you will lose your interest in that property.

Sufficient description of the property to establish reasonable certainty that the person claiming the property is the owner must be presented. Various bicycles, scooters, electronics, personal items, computer equipment, currency coins, sporting goods, jewelry, tools, collectibles and other miscellaneous items.
