Outreach Court is held on the third Wednesday of every month from 12 pm to 4 pm. Please be advised locations and times can change due to availability. No domestic violence, felonies, or juvenile cases.
Outreach Court operates with a specialized approach that takes into account the unique challenges faced by individuals experiencing homelessness. Defendants in Outreach Court undergo evaluation and assessment to identify their needs and determine appropriate interventions and support services. Instead of traditional punitive measures like fines or incarceration, Outreach Court offers alternative sentencing options such as participation in rehabilitation programs, or access to housing and support services. Outreach Court is a collaboration between the judiciary, social service agencies, and other community stakeholders to provide comprehensive support to defendants. Defendants have access to resources such as housing, mental health treatment, substance abuse counseling, job training, and healthcare services. Cases are subject to monthly review to monitor progress and ensure that defendants are complying with court orders and making positive changes in their lives.
The goals of Outreach Court are:
•Use court cases to address underlying causes of homelessness instead of cycling people in between the streets and jail;
•Collaborate with a variety of agencies and service providers to give access to needed services;
•Give participants a voice in designing the program and resolving their individual cases.
Types of cases seen in Outreach Court include prohibited camping, trespass, theft, and disorderly conduct. Serious violations are not addressed in Outreach Court.
