The Medford Police Department’s Mobile Response Team is a group of sworn police officers who work to resolve incidents involving a significant group of individuals engaged in unlawful behavior, such as civil disturbances or unlawful demonstrations. The team may respond to civil unrest, riotous situations or other similar events involving large gatherings of people.
MRT is a secondary assignment and most of the officers assigned are also patrol officers. Patrol officers on shift can and will supplement the team when needed and may be the first responders until the team arrives and is able to deploy. MRT officers have more in-depth training on crowd control tactics and considerations.
The goal of this team is to reduce criminal damage to property, reduce injury to members of the public, and to protect the rights of citizens to engage in First Amendment demonstrations. Officers who are selected for this team are skilled and well-trained to respond to these types of incidents. The Mobile Response Team has two Team Leaders and a Team Commander.
