Sanitary Sewer Collection System

The Sanitary Sewer Crew operates the City's sewage collection system. The crew is frequently seen completing sewer line maintenance, repairs, inspections, construction and cleaning work.

How it Works

The City’s Sanitary Sewer System includes over 265 miles of sewer pipes and five sewage pump stations. The sewer collection system is aging -- over one-third of the City’s sanitary sewer mains are over 60-years-old with over 13 miles of sewer main exceeding 100-years-old.

Public Works has been addressing this aging infrastructure by utilizing alternative methods such as Cured-in-Place-Pipe (CIPP) and pipe bursting. To meet the growing needs within the City, the expectation over the next several years is that sewers will require increased maintenance and repair as well as infrastructure expansion.

Impact

This critical work prevents sanitary sewer overflows and ensures no discharges from the collection system endanger public health or the environment.
