The City of Medford was granted entitlement status under the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in 1989. Since then, HUD has granted the City an average annual entitlement of approximately $600,000. CDBG funding is used to benefit low- and moderate-income persons, eliminate conditions of slum and blight, or meet an urgent need (as defined by HUD) within the City of Medford. Community development activities funded through the program address the priority needs, goals, objectives and strategies identified through the City’s Five-Year Consolidated Plan for Housing and Community Development. Each year, the Housing and Community Development Commission reviews applications for funding and makes recommendation to City Council for approval. Activities that are approved by City Council are then listed in the City’s Annual Action Plan.

CDBG Public Notices
The CDBG program provides the City of Medford with an essential funding source to financially support a variety of programs and projects including but not limited to the following:
Provides operating funds for local nonprofit social service agencies which address a variety of needs such as healthcare for children and adults, services for the homeless and those on the verge of homelessness, and services for abused children.
Public Service Programs
Funds are used to acquire sites and to develop infrastructure for low-income housing development projects. Funds are also used to rehabilitate homes to provide homeownership opportunities for low-income persons.
CDBG funds are used to fund improvements to neighborhood parks, infrastructure development in CDBG eligible neighborhoods and street and sidewalk repair and construction. Funds can also be used to improve accessibility for disabled persons.
