The Housing and Community Development Division is dedicated to providing affordable housing options for all income levels. We recognize the importance of having affordable housing in a community and have identified it as a critical component to economic development. Research has shown that the availability of affordable homes supports the creation of new employees at a rate consistent with comparable market prices. Along with this, stable and affordable housing options allow families to attend to other needs, thus enabling them to be self-sufficient and productive members of the community.

We are determined to assist in both the development and attainment of affordable housing. We are working with developers to support them in the creation of affordable units while helping individuals and families be placed in their future homes.

Affordable Housing Qualifications
Affordable housing in Medford typically pertains to those who make 80% of the Area’s Median Income for home ownership, and 60% of the Area’s Median Income for rentals. This is because most funding obtained by the city is reserved for this specific criteria. However, properties still exist that are able to serve higher incomes.

LOOKING TO DEVELOP AFFORDABLE HOUSING

The City of Medford works to support development of affordable housing units in a variety of types. We support and encourage acquisition and development of single family, multi-family, land trusts, mixed income, rehabilitation projects, and shelters. We have devised multiple tools and resources that can be used for creating and maintaining these units.

Funding resources may comprise of Housing Opportunity Fund (HOF) or Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program funding. As of August 17, 2018, City system development charges (SDCs) may be deferred to a later date for qualified developments. In addition, development code incentives have been instituted.
