Do you install smoke detectors?

The Medford Fire Department does not install smoke detectors, but here are resources that may be available:

  • For Smoke Alarm Assistance, contact the American Red Cross at 1-800-RED-CROSS or RedCross.org

If our crews respond to a home and notice that no smoke detectors are installed, they may install them. The homeowner must sign a “Smoke Detector Installation & Hold Harmless Agreement” which is a waiver to have the device installed.

My smoke alarms or CO alarms are making noise, but there isn't a fire. What do I do?

  • Try replacing the batteries.
  • Still making noise? Pull the alarm and check the manufacture date.  The alarm could be at the end of its service life (5 or 7 years for CO and 10 years for smoke alarms).
  • Still making noise? Check that power is supplied to the alarm (if connected to a power supply).
  • Contact a licensed and qualified electrician if the above options do not work.

Can I burn?

  • Open burning is not allowed in Medford City Limits.
  • Open burning is permitted if you live in Rural District 2.  These restrictions apply:
    • Open burning is allowed March 1 through October 31 unless it’s fire season.  See Oregon’s Department of Forestry or call (541) 776-7007 to confirm it’s a permitted burn day.
    • A burn permit is required.
  • Legal fire pits are allowed when burning hardwood.
  • Burning trash of any type is never permitted.

Where can I get a car seat checked and installed?

Medford Fire Department does not offer car seat installation or checks, however these resources may be available:

  • Central Point Police Department - (541) 664-5578
  • Fire District #3 (Central Point, Eagle Point & White City) - (541) 826-7100

How do I report tall weeds and vegetation posing a fire risk?

Medford Municipal code 7.430 prohibits dead or dry grass, weeds, brush and vegetation over the height of ten inches during the period of May 1 and September 30 of each year.

To report an issue, call Medford City Code Enforcement at (541) 774-2016.
