City officials, community leaders, and members of the Medford Fire Department gathered on April 10 to celebrate the official groundbreaking of the new Fire Station 15. The long-anticipated project marks a major step forward in strengthening the City’s emergency response capabilities and ensuring the safety and well-being of both our personnel and the Medford community.

This project consists of three phases so our crews can continue to respond to calls for service while construction takes place:

Phase 1: Site plan and Temporary Apparatus Bay construction

Phase 2: Fire Station 15 construction

Phase 3: Conversion of temporary bay to logistics center

The new station will replace Medford’s oldest and most outdated fire station, which has served the community for more than 50 years. The upgraded facility will provide a modern, functional workspace for fire crews—supporting their health, safety, and training needs while improving emergency response services in the surrounding area.

Improved Logistics & Support

Our Support Services division will also be relocated to this site, helping centralize our supply operations and improve overall efficiency. Currently, this program is managed out of dorm rooms at FS16 and temporary Conex storage units—making this a significant operational upgrade.

Future-Ready Staffing

Once completed, Fire Station 15 will be staffed with a four-person engine crew and a two-person EMS squad. The station has also been designed with future growth in mind, allowing for the operation of two fire companies and an EMS squad as the needs of our community continue to evolve.

Funding

The new Fire Station 15 is being funded through a combination of existing resources and ongoing revenue streams:

  • $4 million from the City’s reserves

  • A $0.50 increase to the Public Safety portion of the City’s utility fee

  • Roughly $300,000 each year from local marijuana tax revenues

Timeline

Construction is tentatively scheduled for completion in Fall 2026. Fire personnel will continue to staff the current station and respond to calls for service in the area throughout the construction period.

Latest Update:

8/28/25: As Outlier put the finishing touches on the temporary apparatus bay (future logistics center), the crew assigned to Fire Station 15 officially moved out of the old firehouse and into temporary living quarters and apparatus bay. We're extremely proud of the teamwork and comradery within Medford Fire - crews from other stations pitched in after long nights on calls, and even off-duty members showed up to help with this big undertaking. Thanks to their hard work, everything was moved in just one day. Next Steps: Demolition of the old station to make way for construction of the new station!

8/05/2025: Outlier Construction is completing the temporary apparatus bay and housing unit. These should be ready for our crews to move into later this month, so we can continue responding to calls for service while the current station is torn down and rebuilt. Once the new station is completed, crews will move back in, and the temporary apparatus bay will become our new logistics center - a much-needed space for our Support Services division.
