Virginia Vogel Plaza

Located at the corner of E. Main St. and Central Ave. in the heart of downtown Medford, the 75-by-100-foot Vogel Plaza features a popular fountain and the much-photographed "Chess Man" sculpture. A plaque memorializing Virginia Vogel, Medford's first city councilor, was dedicated in 1982. The plaza was developed in 1970, months after one of the worst fires in Medford's history destroyed the building located on the site.
