More local children now have access to educational activities and programs, thanks to scholarship support from the Council Community Initiative Fund (CCIF).

In September 2024, the Medford City Council allocated $570,000 to a variety of community organizations and programs—including $100,000 to The Children’s Museum of Southern Oregon.

Funded by local and state marijuana tax revenue, the CCIF supports projects that enhance community well-being, improve public spaces, and expand educational and cultural opportunities.

Located in downtown Medford, the Children’s Museum features hands-on indoor and outdoor exhibits and programs that promote learning through play. The organization aims to offer early learning opportunities to children who don’t have access to a traditional preschool experience.

According to Executive Director Sunny Spicer, the CCIF grant has already made a major impact—helping fund 483 membership scholarships for Medford residents within the first six months, and partial preschool scholarships for 22 local families within the first nine months.

“This grant is more than just a financial contribution, it’s a commitment to the future of our children and the well-being of our community,” Spicer said during the June 4 City Council meeting.

The museum's educational offerings range from superhero yoga classes that teach physical wellness to culinary programs that introduce kids to healthy eating habits.

Located at 413 W. Main Street, the museum is open Tuesday–Saturday, 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., and Sunday, 12:00 p.m.–5:00 p.m. Admission is $15 for children (free for children under 1), $10 for adults, and free for members.
