Renovations at Howard School Park are nearing completion, with the project expected to wrap up by Memorial Day.

The upgrades, which started in July 2024, include pickleball courts, a splash pad, a dog park, a small basketball court, and a new Portland Loo restroom. The work is being carried out by Adroit Construction Co.

One of the park’s standout features will be the city’s first Lappset interactive playground equipment, designed to offer a unique and engaging experience for kids.

The project is approximately 90% complete, with landscaping and irrigation left to finish, pending favorable weather conditions. The new restroom is expected to be installed in September.

With a total cost of $2.3 million, the project was funded through a combination of a $714,300 Local Government Grant, $925,800 in American Rescue Plan Act funds, and contributions from the Parks, Recreation and Facilities Department’s Capital Improvement Fund.

The 9.2-acre neighborhood park sits along Mace Road, adjacent to Howard Elementary School.
