Jackson Park Improvements to Bring New Splash Park, Dog Park and More
Published on September 28, 2026
Plans are moving forward for new features and amenities at Jackson Park following a Park Development Review by the Planning Commission last Thursday.
Improvements planned for the 10.5-acre park include a new splash park and dog park, an expanded path system, renovations to the aquatic building, upgrades to Fagone Field and improvements to the basketball court and parking areas.
The renovation is planned in five phases:
Phase 1: Splash Park and Aquatic Building
Phase 1 includes a new splash park, restroom building, renovations to the existing aquatic building, bike racks, shade structures and reconstruction of the path between the north parking area and aquatic building.
In May, crews demolished the former Jackson Aquatic Center pool tanks to make way for the splash park. Phase 1 is scheduled for completion in summer 2027.
Phase 2: Fagone Field
Fagone Field will receive synthetic turf, refurbished dugouts, restored bleachers and a new wireless scoreboard. A food truck parking space with electrical and water hookups is also planned.
Phase 2 is scheduled for late 2027 or early 2028.
Phase 3: Dog Park
A new dog park will be constructed on the north side of the park along West Clark Street, featuring double-entry gates and a pet drinking fountain.
Phase 3 is scheduled for completion in 2028.
Phase 4: Basketball Court and Parking
The basketball court and parking lot on the west end along South Columbus Avenue will be improved in Phase 4. Basketball court upgrades include new asphalt and acrylic surfacing, polycarbonate backboards and fencing.
Phase 4 is scheduled for completion in 2029.
Phase 5: Future Amenity Area
A future amenity area is planned between the existing playground and Fagone Field. Programming has not yet been determined, but improvements will include a new 10-foot-wide asphalt path.
Construction of Phase 5 has not yet been scheduled.
Located next to Jackson Elementary School at 815 Summit Ave., Jackson Park serves approximately 1,000 households and 2,500 residents within a half-mile radius.
