Corgis of all shapes and sizes gathered in full force for Medford Parks, Recreation and Facilities' inaugural Yappy Hour: Corgi-Con.

More than 100 people and over 30 dogs made an appearance for the event, which took place at Wes Howard Memorial Sports Park, next to Rogue X, last Friday evening.

Pups adorned in cow patterns, flower wreaths, and superhero outfits strutted their stuff in a lively costume contest, with a bumble bee-clad corgi taking the crown.

Following the fashion fun, corgis took to the races to flex their running abilities in three heats and a finals round. Spectators cheered and recorded their furry friends as some corgis zoomed to victory, while others decided to take a more leisurely approach.

Recreation Supervisor Sandi Sherman said she drew inspiration for the event from attending the popular Corgi Beach Takeover in Cannon Beach. “I happen to have two corgis and figured it was worth a shot here in Southern Oregon, as I know there are quite a few corgis here,” she shared.

After the successful turnout, Sherman expressed hopes to make the event an annual tradition, with plans to host it each spring. The department is also considering adding a “Doxin-Dash" in the fall.

While Corgi-Con and future events will be tailored to specific breeds, all dogs will be welcome to join in on the fun.
