The Fall 2024 school year is starting soon, and the Medford Police Department wants to make sure students stay safe. Please keep the following in mind:

  • Slow down when driving through school zones. Some school zones may have different requirements for the 20 mph speed limit. Here are some examples:
    • 20 mph on school days from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
    • 20 mph when children are present.
    • 20 mph when lights are flashing.
  •  Slow down in residential areas. Watch for children crossing the street and congregating near bus stops.
  • Watch out for school buses that are picking up and dropping off students. Don't pass a school bus when the stop sign is out and red lights are flashing (even if you're on the opposite flow of traffic)
  • Be on the lookout for children walking or riding their bikes to school.
  • Always stop when directed to do so by a designated school crossing guard.
