The existing pavement condition has been analyzed, and it has been determined that crack sealing will produce a cost-effective way to extend the life of the pavement for the traveling public at the lowest life-cycle cost. The City’s Pavement Management Analysis Report is used to determine which street sections will receive a crack seal treatment.
Cracks left untreated allow water to infiltrate into and beneath the base, leading to premature pavement failure. Crack sealing is a cost-effective way to extend pavement life and postpone the cost of early asphalt replacement. Crack sealing is often the first pavement preservation treatment and crack sealing often extends the life of pavements 5 to 10 years before another treatment is needed.
Crack sealing projects are ongoing. Please note: Work schedules are dependent on weather conditions and other factors. Always slow down within construction zones. Drivers should use designated detour routes.
