Volunteer Opportunities

The City of Medford offers a generous blend of structured and non-structured volunteer opportunities.  The City is comprised of multiple departments including: City Administration, Parks, Recreation and Facilities, Medford Police, Medford Fire, Public Works, and Planning all of which oversee a variety of functions that need volunteer help. There is a a wide variety of volunteer opportunities for citizen involvement in the delivery of community services and maintenance of City land and facilities.  The City has multiple choices for citizens, schools, corporations and civic organizations to reinvest their gift of time and talents back to the community. Whether it's a one day project or ongoing support, we recognize your time is a tremendous investment to the City of Medford!

Park & Neighborhood Cleanups

Volunteer and Help Keep Our Parks Clean!

As part of our effort to keep City of Medford Parks and surrounding neighborhoods clean and attractive, Medford Parks, Recreation & Facilities has developed a schedule of cleanup efforts throughout the City. These cleanup efforts are coordinated by the department's volunteer coordinator and are centralized around Medford's Parks. Volunteers are provided all materials necessary to clean up the park and surrounding community. The department's coordinator will be stationed at the scheduled park site handing out gear and materials to support this community cleanup.

I.O.O.F Eastwood Cemetery

Volunteer at Medford's Oldest Continually Operated Cemetery!

The I.O.O.F Cemetery was founded in 1890 and is listed as a State Pioneer Cemetery and the National Register of Historic places! Tour docents will guide registered customers through the cemetery sharing information in a fun and interesting manner. In addition to sharing stories about the lives of some of those interred, the tours are sprinkled with information on the art of monuments, early Medford history and the City's preservation efforts. Program Instructors are generally persons who are proficient in their field of endeavor.  Participants will be required to pre-register for such programs via the Parks and Recreation Department.  Materials for programs can be provided by the Cemetery Administrator. Cleaning Headstones and work on cemetery plots will include oversight and training by the Parks Maintenance division or the Cemetery Administrator.

Volunteer opportunities include:

  • Instruct a program such as headstone rubbing techniques, a drawing or watercolor class

  • Adopt-a-block and perform manual maintenance tasks (see pdf below for details)

  • Distribute materials /assist in locating burial sites during Memorial Day Open House

  • Advocate support for the cemetery by way of presentations to organizations

  • Cleaning Headstones

Pollinator Bed Maintenance

Help Maintain a Pollinator Bed

The Medford Parks, Recreation and Facilities    Department is proud to be the host agency for Medford's Bee City USA status! Medford earned Bee City USA designation on April 4, 2019.

Currently there are four locations of pollinator beds throughout the City of Medford.   Maintaining these pollinator beds is crucial in helping reverse the ever-decreasing population of bees.  "Bee" a supportive volunteer and help remove invasive plants within these beds.  Please click the link below to submit an application if you are interested in this opportunity.

Bear Creek Greenway Cleanups

The Bear Creek Greenway is a 20-mile, paved, multiuse trail that links the cities of Ashland, Talent, Phoenix, Medford and Central Point.

If you are interested in individually volunteering to help keep the Bear Creek Greenway clean and safe, please visit the Jackson County Parks volunteer webpage located here.  Jackson County Parks manages volunteer efforts along this well used multiuse pathway.

To help maintain beautification of the Bear Creek Green Way, the Medford Parks, Recreation & Facilities Department partners with The Bear Creek Stewards to assist in a bi-annual clean-up of the Green Way.  Several sites are hosted by nonprofit organizations set up along the Green Way from Ashland to Central Point.  The Medford Parks, Recreation & Facilities Department hosts the site at Hawthorne Park.  These two events take place in Spring (Earth Day) and Fall (National Public Lands Day).  If you are interested in participating in this massive effort to help clean the Green Way, registration is required.  Registration is available on the "Master Schedule Link" (on this website) closer to the actual event dates.

Weed Pull Wednesday

In efforts to help mitigate the spread of Star Thistle on Roxy Ann Peak at Prescott Park, the Medford Parks & Recreation Department is seeking volunteers to help pull the new growth of this invasive species. 

Beginning in May the Medford Parks & Recreation Department will be hosting a site at one of the upper parking lots at Prescott Park every Wednesday.  We will provide all the necessary supplies to complete the task.  Whether you want to help, walk a dog, or just go for a hike, this volunteer opportunity is a great way to get outside and support your local Parks Department, without much effort.  It also comes with some great views.  Start times may vary, please check the Master Schedule on this page before attending for the most current information.
