A competitive Medford youth swim team based at Rogue X is making waves locally and beyond.

Earlier this month, the Rogue Rapids Swim Team won 12 individual gold medals at the Oregon State Championship meet in Beaverton, with several other team members advancing to finals.

Launched in January 2024, the team has grown rapidly, giving swimmers opportunities to train and compete—and thanks to City support, more young athletes are diving into the sport.

In September 2025, the City Council allocated $611,750 through the Council Community Initiative Fund to local organizations and programs, including $25,000 in scholarship funding for the Rogue Rapids.

The team currently serves 130 swimmers, including 18 who receive need-based scholarships that help reduce monthly dues and cover meet and travel costs.

“We don’t want any athletes to not be able to participate,” co-founder Dr. Laurel Naversen Geraghty said during an update to the Parks and Recreation Commission. She added, “We’re very grateful for the opportunity to use this beautiful pool and be community partners.”
