The Medford Fire Department's (MFD) Fire Station 15 rebuild project has entered its final phase, marking a major milestone in the construction of the department's newest station.
Earlier this month, fire crews moved into the new station as Outlier Construction completed the final interior and exterior details. Crews are now operating from the new facility, instead of the temporary housing and apparatus bay that served crews during construction.
Following the move, the temporary modular housing unit was relocated from the site to the Fire Station 14 training grounds, where it will be used to provide firefighters with realistic, scenario-based training opportunities. Removal of the temporary housing allows contractors to complete the project's remaining paving and landscaping work.
Once those final site improvements are finished, the temporary apparatus bay will be converted into Medford Fire Department's new logistics facility, creating additional space to support department operations and equipment management.
The new Fire Station 15 replaces Medford's oldest and most outdated fire station, which served the community for more than 50 years. Designed to meet the needs of a growing community and higher demand for emergency medical services, the upgraded facility provides a modern, functional workspace that supports firefighter health, safety, and training while enhancing emergency response capabilities in the surrounding area. The project is funded through a combination of existing resources and ongoing revenue streams, including $4 million from the City’s reserves, a $0.50 increase to the Public Safety portion of the City’s utility fee, and roughly $300,000 each year from local marijuana tax revenues.
The station will house one of the department's three EMS Squads, helping Medford Fire continue to deliver efficient emergency medical services while keeping fire engines available for fire-related incidents.
The project remains on track to be completed ahead of schedule and under budget. Department logistics staff are expected to move into the new logistics center in September, and a community grand opening celebration is anticipated in October.
