City, Rogue Retreat Unveil New Duplex Units at the Crossings
Published on December 07, 2023
Last week, the City of Medford, in partnership with Rogue Retreat, unveiled the new Foldum structures at the Crossings (the new Urban Campground).
Foldum Corporation has installed 30 structures, which will house 60 individuals. Those individuals will move into the Crossings within the next couple of weeks.
This project meets one of the City Council's 2023-25 Biennial Goals for housing, which is to continue the implementation of the Homeless System Action Plan to increase access to shelter and transitional/permanent supportive housing.
In June 2023, City Councilors approved a contract for $586,350 with Foldum Corporation. The City’s consultant has advised staff that Foldum structures excel in their robust construction and durability, which is a critical factor for achieving lowest life-cycle cost in a use like the Crossings.
The City received $2.2 million to construct the Crossings. The funding came from Senate Bill 5561, which was set into motion when the Governor declared homelessness an emergency. Senate Bill 5561’s funding is targeted to assist programs or services that address housing insecurity, lack of affordable housing or homelessness.
On June 16, 2022, with the help of a $1 million grant from Senator Jeff Golden, the City acquired land that will serve as a new location of the Crossings. The City is currently working on building infrastructure to make the Crossings even more of a robust, successful low-barrier shelter than the current location is. This includes the provision of permanent restrooms, showers and laundry and a climate-controlled community structure.
The Crossings is located at 846 West McAndrews Road.
