Celebrate Safely This Fourth of July

This Fourth of July, the City of Medford is reminding residents to celebrate responsibly and follow local fireworks regulations.

Fire danger in the Medford area is currently High. While consumer fireworks are legal during the designated use period, current conditions make it especially important to follow safety precautions and dispose of fireworks properly. Improperly discarded fireworks and fireworks that land in dry grass or vegetation can quickly ignite a fire.

Fireworks Safety

Please keep these safety tips in mind as you celebrate this Fourth of July:

Place fireworks in a container full of water overnight before disposing of them.
Have a hose or bucket of water available to put a fire out.
Do NOT dispose of fireworks in dumpsters (especially plastic ones) or plastic trash cans.
Never hold fireworks in your hands.
Never re-light a dud. Wait 15 minutes, pick up with a shovel, and soak with water before disposal.
Be safe when lighting fireworks; keep children and pets away from fireworks.
Be aware; use only legal fireworks and use them only in legal places.

Be a Good Neighbor

As fireworks can be distressing for pets, veterans and others in the community, residents are encouraged to be respectful of those around them and celebrate responsibly. Know Before You Light

Fireworks that fly into the air or explode are illegal in Oregon (mortars, bottle rockets, Roman candles, firecrackers, and M-80s).
Consumer fireworks may be sold through July 6. Oregon-legal consumer fireworks may only be used from July 1 through July 6.
Personal use of Oregon-legal consumer fireworks is prohibited at all times in the Bear Creek Greenway, City parks, public school grounds, and hillsides east of Foothill Road and North Phoenix Road (Wildland Hazard Areas).
