Garrett West was elected to office in 2024 and began serving as Ward 3 Councilor in January 2025.
Garrett West was born and raised in Medford. After graduating as valedictorian from North Medford High School, he earned a degree from the University of Oregon Robert D. Clark Honors College, where he triple-majored in History, Political Science, and Classics. He then received his Juris Doctor from Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C., where he served as Executive Editor of the Georgetown Environmental Law Review. Despite opportunities on the East Coast, Garrett chose to return home to Medford to serve his community.
Today, Garrett is a partner at O’Connor West, LLC, a local law firm specializing in land use and real estate development. He has extensive experience working with homeowners, builders, and state officials to address Southern Oregon’s housing needs, focusing on practical, long-term solutions. Garrett has a strong record of community involvement. In high school, he served on the Medford Parks and Recreation Commission and the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Commission. More recently, he has served on the national board of directors for Dogs for Better Lives, a locally-based nonprofit that trains assistance dogs, and as a coach for the University of Oregon Law School’s mock trial team. Garrett also currently serves on the Oregon Wildfire Programs Advisory Council. His leadership extends to several state and regional boards that focus on housing and development. As a City Councilor, Garrett is passionate about ensuring Medford grows in a way that balances sustainability, affordability, and the unique character of the community he’s proud to call home. His priorities include tackling the housing crisis, addressing the cost of living, and ensuring Medford remains a thriving and inclusive city for all its residents.
When not working, Garrett enjoys hiking, attending local events, and exploring the natural beauty of Southern Oregon with friends and family.
Garrett strives to ensure Medford remains a place where families can thrive. He prioritizes housing, the cost-of-living and sustainable development. His goal is to help Medford reach its full potential so everyone can experience the beauty, opportunity, and support he’s always found here.
