Traffic School

This program is designed to allow drivers the opportunity to recognize and review their driving habits, attitudes, and behaviors.  The purpose is to motivate drivers to heighten their driving awareness and establish safer driving techniques for the enhanced safety of the entire community.  If you qualify for this program, you may voluntarily enter into the program.  The requirements for the program are as follows:

  • You were cited for a single moving violation that does not involve an accident.  Sorry, Cell Phone/Mobile Device violations under ORS 811.507 do not qualify for this program.
  • You have no previous moving violation convictions or traffic crimes within the last two years.
  • You have not participated in a traffic school program within the last two years with Medford Municipal Court.
  • You have a valid non-commercial drivers license or permit.

If you qualify for the program and decide to participate you will be required to pay a program fee to the Court, which is equivalent to the presumptive fine listed on your citation.  You will be required to attend a Court approved traffic school.  These traffic schools charge tuition fees ranging from $40 to $50 which is an additional cost to you.  The Court will provide you with class options.  Please note that if you take a class that is not provided to you by the Court, it will not be accepted. You are only required to attend one class and there are several options available to choose from including an online course.

Safety Belt Program:

This program is available for all first-time offenders of the following violations:

  • Not wearing a safety belt
  • Improperly wearing a safety belt
  • Failing to maintain safety belts in working order
  • Allowing a passenger under 16 to not wear a safety belt in a vehicle you are operating

To sign up for the Safety Belt Program call 541-774-2040 or come to the Court located at 411 W. 8th Street, Medford, OR 97501.  If you qualify and attend the Safety Belt Program, you will not be required to pay a fine to the court and the citation will not go on your driving record as a conviction. 

Distracted Driving Program (Cell Phone Citations):

The Distracted Driving Avoidance Program is offered by Medford Municipal Court pursuant to ORS 811.508.  This program is designed to allow drivers the opportunity to recognize and review their driving habits, attitudes, and behaviors.  The purpose is to motivate drivers to heighten their driving awareness and establish safer driving techniques for the enhanced safety of the entire community.  If you qualify for this program, you may voluntarily enter into the program.  The requirements for the program are as follows

  • You have no previous violations of 811.507.
  • The incident did not involve an accident.
