Suspension of Driving Privileges

If your driving privileges have been suspended by the Medford Municipal Court, you will receive notice from the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).  Your license may be suspended for one of the following reasons:

  • Failure to appear: Failure to appear for any traffic citation or minor in possession of alcohol or marijuana can result in court action against your driver's license. Additional fees will be assessed. 
  • Failure to Comply: Failure to comply with a court order may have resulted in suspension action against your driver's license. 

Options to clear your failure to appear or failure to comply suspension include:

  1. Pay citation in full; or
  2. Set up a payment plan and make a down payment of 10 percent or $50 whichever is greater.

You are responsible for contacting the DMV to verify reinstatement of your license. In order for the DMV to reinstate your license they must receive clearance documents from the court. These documents are faxed to DMV headquarters in Salem. Court clearance documents do not give you authorization to drive. Additionally, if your license is suspended by other courts you will need to contact those courts separately for resolution.  The Oregon DMV may require you to pay additional reinstatement fees. Once you have cleared your suspension with the court, you are to contact the Oregon DMV.

DMV can also revoke or suspend your license for many reasons including:

  • Driving uninsured conviction;
  • Failing to pay child support;
  • Multiple traffic offense convictions and/or preventable traffic accidents over a certain period of time;
  • Failure to file an accident report as required.

In some cases, the Oregon DMV will require you to file an SR22.  If you fail to file your SR22, the DMV will suspend your driving privileges.  For more information regarding filing an SR22, the status of your driving privileges, and to clear suspensions contact the Oregon DMV. Do not contact the court for DMV actions.

Driving during a period of suspension or revocation can result in law enforcement issuing you a citation for driving while suspended or revoked. Law enforcement also has the authority to impound the vehicle that you are operating at the time of the offense of driving while suspended or revoked.
