Ward 1 Councilor
Councilor Spansail, born in Medford and raised in the Rogue Valley, was elected to the City Council in 2021.
Sarah Spansail began serving as Councilor for Ward 1 in January of 2021.
Sarah has consistently served the public through a multitude of boards and non-profit organizations. She is a strong advocate for her community and has dedicated many hours toward improving quality of life for everyone. Her lifelong volunteerism eventually led to her service on the City Council.
Sarah wholeheartedly believes that Medford is a city in which everyone can successfully live, work and play, regardless of education, income, age or ethnicity. She places a priority on supporting the agencies which provide affordable housing solutions, mental-health and drug treatment services, local education programs, the emergency response system and the financial security of small businesses.
She and her husband were married in 2005 and have two young sons, Simon and Oslo. She has served on many local boards and non-profits for the betterment of the entire community and to provide an atmosphere for her children to thrive.
Sarah was born in Medford and raised in the Rogue Valley. She graduated from Ashland High School and recently re-enrolled at SOU to continue her degree.
She currently works as an Accounting Clerk at Budget Lumber Co. and previously as the Tenant Education Specialist for the Community Alliance of Tenants; Administrative and Customer Service Manager, Conservation Services Group, Energy Trust of Oregon.
She has a Project Management Certificate from Portland State University; completed undergraduate coursework at Southern Oregon University; and a Parliamentary Procedure Certificate from the University of Wisconsin.
She was a Housing and Human Services Commissioner for the City of Ashland; 1000 Friends of Oregon; Community Alliance of Tenants; Elections and Nominations Committee of Healthcare for All Oregon; National Association of Parliamentarians and is an alumna of Emerge Oregon.
